Rosa Bourkes

Bourke’s  parrot or Bourke’s Parakeet is a small parrot originating in Australia. They are named after Sir Richard Bourke Governor of New South Wales from 1831 to 1837. There are several different mutations including Rosa Bourkes which we keep in our aviary.

Rosa Bourkes are gentle little birds with a lovely tinkling song mainly first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening when they love to fly up and down. Although they do manage well in a mixed aviary I have found it has to be with the right birds. We took them out of the large aviary as found they were being intimidated by the budgies and even by the cockatiels who are not aggressive birds. They seem much happier on their own in the converted shed soon we will be mixing them with finches and diamond doves who they seem perfectly happy with.
